ARIES

March 21-April 19

The first half of this year is your oyster, and you only need to shuck it to get the pearl. With both Saturn and Jupiter whispering sweet nothings to you through to June, you can make your dreams into plans and your plans into manageable actions to steadily achieve. Don’t waste this energy by being distracted or lazy because if you’re willing to change, your life can be a better fit for who you are.

Love may be another matter altogether, though. Don’t take on other people’s crap, but don’t turn your back on them either. Know the boundaries of what’s your choice versus your responsibility so you can keep your side of the road clean interpersonally. Say what you mean and mean what you say, Aries.

YOUR 2015 MEDITATION: I show up to do what I came here to do.

TAURUS

April 20-May 20

Know your limits, Taurus. This year will ask you to change many things, and the better you know yourself, the wiser your choices will be. Identify your feelings and needs, make a plan for how to get them addressed, and stay flexible as your circumstances or perspectives change. The crap you were dealing with in 2014 should be lightened up considerably this year (yay!), but don’t get too comfy ‘cause from June to September Saturn will make one last past through Scorpio, bringing back up whatever you’ve left unresolved. Sharpen your tools in 2015 so that you can know yourself better, and be an improved comrade to the people around you. Remember that things don’t need to be easy to be good, or pleasant to be healthy. If you’re gonna strive this year, do it towards things that reflect your values and improve your world.

YOUR 2015 MEDITATION: I don’t need to know what’s coming to show up and do my best.

GEMINI

May 21-June 21

Holy cow, Twin Star, you’ve worked so hard to get here and you can’t even catch your breath! You can accomplish so much this year, but it’ll take determination and focus (two things that at least one of your inner twins has). Make sure that your plans include a healthy balance between your personal needs for intimacy, fun, and the pursuit of happiness, and your professional needs to have security, respect, and growth. There are no right or wrong answers, but as you are the one who will be most deeply effected by your choices, make good ones for you.

Keep your heart wide open because there is so much love available to you in 2015. It’s on you to make sure that you are choosing loves that hold you up and make you happy, so look for quality of connection over quantity, especially from August onwards.

YOUR 2015 MEDITATION: I am only willing to compromise what doesn’t compromise me.

CANCER

June 22-July 22

You are moving through deep emotional terrain, Moonchild, and if you’re open to new ways of seeing yourself and others you will overcome some heavy old blocks this year. The key is not to wait passively for change to come, but instead to create inroads that will invite opportunity, and even pave the way for more meaningful connections. As a super emotional sign you are no stranger to being overcome with feeling, so try to master noticing the difference between your reactions and your essential heartfelt truth. Standing on your own two feet (or wheels or sticks, as you see fit) in the middle of a rainstorm is what will give you the chops to integrate the changes you’re moving through. Embrace revolutions of the heart and soulful transformation in 2015.

YOUR 2015 MEDITATION: It’s not time to figure things out when I’m emotionally overwhelmed.

LEO

July 23-Aug. 22

When things don’t go your way it’s important to resist the impulse towards fight or flight, Leo. That isn’t to say that you should never bounce or battle, but that your impulses are a little unsteady. Bring some strategy into your game this year and make sure that you figure out what you want and need before you take your stand. You are growing in ways you didn’t see coming and that’s not bad or good, but it’s hella important. Honor your own development enough to catch up with yourself; honor the needs of your heart and your lifestyle so that you don’t shoot one in the foot in favor of the other.

Your finances may be tight in ‘15, but this is really just so that the Universe can get you to look at what you prioritize, and how your choices can better reflect your needs. The overall lesson for this year is to pour your self into the people, causes, and situations that are a true reflection of who and what you are, even if it’s hard, or not what you expected.

YOUR 2015 MEDITATION: I choose to believe in the limitless potential of life.

VIRGO

Aug. 23-Sept. 22

If you’re not afraid of work this year holds so much promise for you, Virgo! The key is to apply yourself to the things you want to achieve instead of every other thing under the sun. You don’t necessarily have a problem with setting your priorities, but sticking to them is another story altogether. Don’t control things; instead strive to mold them with your consistent attentions, pal. You are on the verge of greatness, all you need to do is keep your focus and your perspective.

When it comes to love in 2015, you mustn’t shy away from it, my cerebral friend. Invite in all the happiness you can stand, and let it flow towards you. This year is an excellent one for seeing your own blocks more clearly and sweeping them away. Fall in love with worthy subjects- including your self.

YOUR 2015 MEDITATION: I choose to focus on what I want instead of what I fear.

LIBRA

Sept. 23-Oct. 22

You may have to face some heavy stuff, but this year is your time to develop the tools to do it. Your sign is known for indecision and that’s no joke, but 2015 may find you needing to whittle your life down to it’s most important investments so that you can give your all to the things and people that you care about most. You’ll need to make the call about what deserves your attentions, and the best way to do that is to think about what will feed your life both in the short and the long term. The waters of your life are rough, and I’m not seeing a great many certainties, but that’s just a call to be your own anchor, Libra. Whether your relationships change or end is not what you should be too focused on. Make sure that what you’re doing is authentic and that you are choosing to participate in healthy and progressive ways.

YOUR 2015 MEDITATION: I use all the tools at my disposal, including my intuition.

SCORPIO

Oct. 23-Nov. 21

Believe in yourself, Scorpio. With Saturn, taskmaster of the Zodiac, finally out of your sign, 2015 promises to be much lighter than the previous two years have been for you. There may be a bunch of stagnant dynamics and swampy feelings still looming from ’14 like a nasty hangover, so commit to setting some limits that will help you feel better and do better, my friend. When you know and accept yourself it’s way easier to set up expectations for others that will let them know what you’re down to give. Leave room in your heart for others to snuggle up to, because this year can absolutely bring or deepen love in your life. Try not to get in your own way by trying to please everyone, and pleasing no one in the process. Don’t shrink away from confrontation when it’s constructive, or love when it’s true.

YOUR 2015 MEDITATION: Pain only points me to what needs attention.

SAGITTARIUS

Nov. 22-Dec. 21

The thing about pacing is that you have to have equal parts vision, patience, and faith to do it right. You are being called upon to adopt a healthy approach to your life this year, and if you can master it the payoff will be fantastic. Opportunity is in the air all around you, Sag, but whatever comes will require hard work. You need to assess what constitutes a good option in theory, versus what works for you IRL, and in the present moment. Don’t hop on a thing because you once wanted it, or because you think others would want it. Choose to invest your energies into things that you truly desire, so that you can create a life that is uniquely yours to thrive in, Sagittarius.

YOUR 2015 MEDITATION: I honor the truth of what I am.

CAPRICORN

Dec. 22-Jan. 19

If you take on the worries of the people you’re close to, you will make yourself crazy, Capricorn. There’s no reason to lug around other people’s feelings for them, even in solidarity. The best you can do to support them is to bear witness and give what you have to share in a healthy way. You have so much work to do to 2.0 your life this year, so don’t let draining personal dynamics be your undoing. Pay attention to your habits so that you can change whichever ones you determine are limiting you. Get into your body and make sure it’s healthy and can support your heart and mind this year. Any successes you achieve will improve your emotional life as much as it supports your professional interests if you play your cards right, so git on it, buddy.

YOUR 2015 MEDITATION: I am emotionally open and available with healthy limits.

AQUARIUS

Jan. 20-Feb. 18

Be careful what you ask for, my electrical friend, ‘cause you just might get it. 2015 is a magical year for you, giving you a bit of a Midas touch. The trouble with this gift is that -if I remember the story of old Midas correctly- his gift of turning everything into gold brought him misery. Getting what you want is only a wonderful thing when you have selected your desires wisely.

Don’t forget that you need other people, Aquarius, and that they need you. When you’re making your plans and building your empire it’s essential that you don’t leave your heart and it’s needs out of the equation. Build bridges and escape hatches, and then hope that you never need to use them.

YOUR 2015 MEDITATION: I am responsible to my choices.

PISCES

Feb. 19-March 20

You are not in control (sorry!) and 2015 is your year to learn how to integrate non-attachment into your self-care regime. This means being centered and grounded in your integrity -whatever that looks like for you- so that your welfare and happiness is not wholly dependant on what others say or do, or even how things end up. This is way easier said than done, but is an excellent goal for you, Pisces. If you can come from a loving and unattached place then the dynamics you have with others that would drag you down will be more like annoyances than life-changing setbacks. Determine your fate by defining what you’re willing to let effect you, my dear.

YOUR 2015 MEDITATION: I’ve got this.

2014 Year Ahead Horoscope for Aritzia

IT’S IN THE STARS

by Caitlin Smith

 Originally Published December 20, 2013

Montreal born, San Francisco-based astrologer Jessica Lanyadoo forecasts the year ahead exclusively for Aritzia and—good news!—it’s going to be a stellar one.

“I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t into astrology!” Jessica Lanyadoo gushes. “I got my first astrology book from my mother for my twelfth birthday because I was so fascinated by it. I studied that book for years, rereading every chapter until I practically memorized it.” Armed with a stable of self-taught techniques, Lanyadoo went on to attend New School at Dawson College in Quebec. “I ate, drank, and breathed astrology,” she says. When she turned 19, she packed her bags and moved from her native Montreal to San Francisco to pursue a career in astrology, offering low-cost readings to build her client base in between her day jobs in retail, customer service, and working with developmentally disabled adults. All the while, she continued to perfect her intuitive gifts. These days, the Capricorn writes weekly horoscopes for the San Francisco Bay Guardian and has her own office in the Mission district—it’s liberally decorated with vintage globes, plants, life-sized porcelain cats, and gemstones—where she runs her private practice as a psychic medium and astrologer. “I get to help people help themselves—there’s really nothing better,” she enthuses. “I’m in a field without regulations, which can have its drawbacks, but on the plus side it has forced me to be intentional about what I want to do, and on what terms. That’s allowed me to innovate how I want to work and live in a way that a lot of other careers wouldn’t do. I get to be exactly myself as I do what I love,” she says. “Did I mention that I have a dream job?”

To celebrate the coming new year, Lanyadoo offers Aritzia readers a special prediction for 2014. The first half, she warns, will “stir up passions, ambitions, and frustrations” due to a Mars retrograde. “How we approach our goals will require great mindfulness or sparks will fly—which is all good until something catches on fire and there’s no one with a cool enough temperament to put it out!” But, she adds, “2014 will be a good year for all children of the zodiac to get their affairs in order, especially in financial and romantic spheres.” Read on to find out what else is in store during The Year of the Horse.

ARIES

MARCH 21 - APRIL 19

For the first half of the year, you will have your ruling planet Mars messing with you as it retrogrades through Libra, your opposing sign. You’ll have to own up to overstepping your rights or coming on too strong, or you may have to contend with others who are mad-dogging you. Treating others with kindness does not mean that you should treat them exactly how you would wish to be treated! Watch out for power struggles biting you in your sweet hiney. Listen to what others are telling you that they need, and decide if you are willing (or able) to give it to them. If you come up with a no, be honest and forthright enough to change their expectations or to take yourself out of the game altogether. If things are bound to change (and they are), then you might as well make it count. Rise to the occasion, Aries.

YOUR 2014 MEDITATION: I HONOR MY COMMITMENTS, EVEN WHEN IT’S A PAIN IN THE ASS.

YOUR 2014 SPIRIT ANIMAL: THE VAMPIRE BAT, WHO HAS STRONG FAMILY BONDS AND WILL REGURGITATE ITS FOOD TO FEED A NEEDY FRIEND.

TAURUS

APRIL 20 - MAY 20

This is the last year of a two-and-a-half year opposition from Saturn to your solar energies, which means that you’ve still got a lot of work to do, Taurus. Follow through on your plans, make good on your commitments, and set some much-needed limits. This year is going to test how well you’ve put your life together, and the more well-suited your life is, the easier your work will be. Sometimes conflict can’t be avoided—and perhaps more importantly—should not be avoided. Don’t resist confrontations when they’re necessary. Like the old adage says: In order to make an omelet, you need to break a few eggs. Your relationships will require flexibility from you, and during 2014 you will be confronted with the ways both you and those around you have changed. One cannot grow without outgrowing people and circumstances, my love. Look for the adventure in change instead of lamenting loss.

YOUR 2014 MEDITATION: THIS IS WHERE I’M AT TODAY; I WONDER WHAT COMES NEXT.

YOUR 2014 SPIRIT ANIMAL: THE BUTTERFLY, QUEEN OF METAMORPHOSIS; SHE SEES HER CHANGES AS GROWTH, NOT LOSS.

GEMINI

MAY 21 - JUNE 21

The path is the same this year whether you want to advance your love life, your health, your profession, or your finances, Twin Star. Maintain your balance and keep your eyes on the prize without getting distracted by shiny new things! The stars can be real tricksters sometimes, and there’s a lesson to be learned from that: Distractions can test your resolve, but if you stay focused you’ll find getting where you want to go is your reward. In 2014 you don’t need to know the how as much as the what and why. You may be surprised by how things shake down, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t be happy with the results! You don’t have to be attached to how things look if you are committed to making sure they feel right. Have a little faith and let your circumstances develop as you work to realise your dreams, whatever they may be.

YOUR 2014 MEDITATION: BEING CONTROLLING IS NOT THE ONLY WAY TO MAINTAIN CONTROL.

YOUR 2014 SPIRIT ANIMAL: THE DOVE OR PIGEON WHO FEEDS FROM THE LAND; ALTHOUGH SHE CAN SOAR, SHE KEEPS HERSELF GROUNDED.

CANCER

JUNE 22 - JULY 22

Cancers have the reputation for being super emotional and sensitive, but what many people don’t know is that you are also incredibly tenacious. Your sign craves security, but the only way to maintain true stability is to flow with the changing tides and to maintain your balance when waters become choppy. This year, the stars want you to grow, and they’re not going to take no for an answer! Don’t resist your own transformation, Moonchild. When things go wrong, it’s not because you are wrong. Learn from your mistakes, but don’t let them define you. All things happen for a reason; you just need to be interested enough in the story of your life to find out why, and courageous enough to not always expect the worst. Organise your life so you can experience calm and joyfulness this year. Keep your friends and loved ones close at hand as you advance your ambitions.

YOUR 2014 MEDITATION: COMPOST MAKES THE BETTER FERTILIZER.

YOUR 2014 SPIRIT ANIMAL: THE SURFER BETHANY HAMILTON; SHE GOT BIT BY A SHARK BUT WITHIN A MONTH SHE GOT BACK IN THE WATER.

LEO

JULY 23 - AUGUST 22

Saturn is going to remain a thorn in your side all year, and that means that you need to get serious about how you’re shaping your life. Let 2014 be the year of industry, sweat, and elbow grease—just be thankful that grunge is back in style! The more responsibility you take for how your life is constructed, the more successful it will be. Others will take notice of your efforts and there’s potential for success—you’ve just got to work, Leo. As your priorities shift your relationships may change, but any relationship worth keeping won’t be any worse for the wear. There’s no avoiding hard work in the next twelve months, but happily, the planet Jupiter enters Leo in July and will remain there for the rest of the year. This will give you a great boost of luck and energy, and may present you with expansive opportunities. Whether they’re personal or professional, stay focused on your goals because if you play your cards right, this year will be a game changer.

YOUR 2014 MEDITATION: I GET OUT WHAT I PUT IN.

YOUR 2014 SPIRIT ANIMAL: THE GOOSE, A MIGRATORY BIRD WHO’S ALWAYS ON THE GO.

VIRGO

AUGUST 23 - SEPTEMBER 22

You are not meant to have all the answers right away, sweet Virgo. You need to give yourself time to develop your ideas and strategies this year, or you will likely create unnecessary struggles both within your always-active head, and the outside world. In order to have the kind of lasting success that you want, you’re going to have to be willing to consider your emotional needs and make provisions for them. Security is yours for the taking, but how much would it suck to work hard and achieve your goals just to realise that you don’t really want or like what you’ve achieved? Let time-steeped reflection strengthen your goals, even if that requires slowing down your natural pace. With Neptune opposing your solar energies all year, this is an especially good time to develop a meditation practice, or some other calming and reflective form of self-care.

YOUR 2014 MEDITATION: THERE’S TIME ENOUGH FOR ALL OF IT IF I JUST MAKE THE TIME.

YOUR 2014 SPIRIT ANIMAL: THE BEAR, WHO FOLLOWS HER NATURAL RHYTHMS AND HIBERNATES WHEN SHE NEEDS TO.

LIBRA

SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 22

With Mars in your sign for the first half of the year, you’re going to be dealing with anger and passion in altogether new ways, whether you like it or not. Explore new pleasures and assert your preferences, even if your habit is to let the other person lead. Stand up for yourself when the going gets rough! Explore your sexuality! Become a dancing fool! The first half of ’14 is the time to get to know your body on all counts, so if you start a new fitness or health regime it’s likely to be successful. This will also be a good time to advocate for yourself, ask for a raise, or cut people that aren’t good for you out of your life. The theme here is taking full responsibility for what works for you and what you are willing to do. Don’t hide behind nicey-niceness, Libra, ’cause it’s not the same thing as kindness or integrity. Self-possession plus ambition equals awesomeness that feels as good as it looks.

YOUR 2014 MEDITATION: IT’S NOT SELFISH; IT’S MY TIME TO DO ME.

YOUR 2014 SPIRIT ANIMAL: THE LIONESS, A COLLABORATIVE CAT WHOSE FIERCE STRENGTH CANNOT BE TAMED.

SCORPIO

OCTOBER 23 - NOVEMBER 21

You are not meant to sit pretty on a plateau this year, Scorpio. Be like your 2014 spirit animal the beaver, and build the circumstances that you want to live in. There is so much to be accomplished, and the more active role you play in directing those changes the better. If you keep in mind two potential pitfalls, you’ll be better equipped to achieve success. First off, the stars want you to slow down. That means you’ll have to develop greater tolerance for the discomfort of not knowing how or when things are going to turn out, which sounds much easier than it is. You may also find your year peppered with challenges and shifts in your relationships. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it will require more flexibility than that you come by organically. Don’t follow other people’s lead when they’re acting in anxious or chaotic ways. Trust your instincts, even if you’re trying something outside of your comfort zone.

YOUR 2014 MEDITATION: MINDFUL RISK-TAKING YIELDS THE BEST RESULTS.

YOUR 2014 SPIRIT ANIMAL: THE INDUSTRIOUS AND FAMILY-ORIENTED BEAVER.

SAGITTARIUS

NOVEMBER 22 - DECEMBER 21

This is your year, Sagittarius! You are capable of reaching great heights, and even as Mars is retrograde for the first half of the year, you will be able to creatively manifest what you need in life’s needs. Be on the lookout for opportunities that you can grow into in 2014, and don’t be scared to work hard. You are in a growth period that is too good to waste! Quick fixes and short-term indulgences with long-term crappy consequences are just not worth it. The universe wants you to be able to act on what you need, and to be patient enough to get it. You won’t get stuck if you take your time, but you might feel like you’re treading water if you stick to your old ways of rushing to and fro. Don’t confuse a gestating period with inactivity, and do embrace the kind of stability that is fertile and ever-growing.

YOUR 2014 MEDITATION: GETTING MY WAY DOESN’T HAVE TO HAPPEN RIGHT AWAY.

YOUR 2014 SPIRIT ANIMAL: THE DELIBERATE AND ALWAYS PREPARED TURTLE WHO LIVES BETWEEN LAND AND WATER.

CAPRICORN

DECEMBER 22 - JANUARY 19

There is so much abundance for you in 2014 that you may be surprised at what happens, Capricorn! In the wise words of Jeanette Winterson: “You play, you win, you play, you lose. You play. It’s the playing that’s irresistible…what you risk reveals what you value.” Don’t let your fear of failure dictate what you’re willing to risk. Yours is not a sign associated with easy flow, but this year the stars want to help you change all that. It’s not enough to succeed in the attainment of goals or power; living well doesn’t just mean having nice things or getting validation from others. Strive to have a rich and thriving emotional life, too. Take heartfelt chances with romance, at work, and with your family to have the intimacy, support, and love that you need to be happy. You can totally have it all, but that requires being able to share and enjoy it with the right people.

YOUR 2014 MEDITATION: I PRIORITIZE MY HAPPINESS IN TANDEM WITH MY GOALS.

YOUR 2014 SPIRIT ANIMAL: THE PLEASURE SEEKING OTTER: OH, HOW SHE LOVES TO LOVE!

AQUARIUS

JANUARY 20 - FEBRUARY 18

If only your plans were well-received by others, we wouldn’t have any problems in the world! Sadly, life is a collaborative journey, and it involves other peoples’ ideas, needs, and often their egos, too. With the planet Saturn still harshing your mellow in 2014, you may have to contend with some delays with the building of your empire, no matter how modest or Kanye-sized it may be. Let things develop in their own time so that you don’t stir up unnecessary opposition. From July onwards, the planet Jupiter will be offering you lots of chances to expand, so spend the first half of ’14 securing your foundations and clarifying your vision. You will want to capitalize on the opportunities this planet of changing fortunes brings; make sure your objectives are clear and the path is reasonably uncluttered by people-sized obstacles. You may need to bring others around to your way of thinking, but you should certainly be open to them changing your mind, too. Change or be changed, Aquarius.

YOUR 2014 MEDITATION: IF I BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME.

YOUR 2014 SPIRIT ANIMAL: THE HARD-WORKING AND DECIDEDLY ODD WOODPECKER.

PISCES

FEBRUARY 19 - MARCH 20

This year, it would be wise to make improvements before you absolutely have to. You don’t need to stay in a mediocre situation, patiently waiting for it to turn horrible before you get up and leave, Pisces! Let the things that aren’t working for you point you towards what you need to get pro-active about. Truth talk is that you can be quite passive, but stepping up and becoming the authority on your own life is worth the discomfort that doing so might create. Manage the brass tacks of your mental health in ’14 by getting enough rest, eating well, and spending quality time with the folks that fortify you. It’s hard to materialize your goals when they’re vague or half-baked. Get real about what you want and how to go about making it happen; you’re only a series of clear-minded steps away from your goals, so leave off the pipe dreams and do what needs to be done.

YOUR 2014 MEDITATION: MY LIFE IS MINE FOR THE MAKING!

YOUR 2014 SPIRIT ANIMAL: THE LONG-TAILED TIT, A FAMILY-ORIENTED BIRD, WHO BUILDS HER NEST IN THE MOST INDUSTRIOUS WAYS
